Just six kilometers from Diocletian’s Palace in Split, you’ll find Salona—the ancient capital of Roman Dalmatia.
Tucked into one of the most beautiful bays on the eastern Adriatic coast, Salona lies at the foot of Mount Kozjak and along the delta of the Jadro River.
This location offered natural protection, easy access to the coast, and strong trade connections to the hinterland through the Klis Pass, making Salona a thriving Roman hub whose ruins now reveal an incredible chapter of Adriatic history.
The city flourished as a major trading center, attracting merchants from across the Mediterranean. Its strategic location made it a crucial hub for the spice trade, connecting the Roman Empire with the East.
