St. Nicholas Church (Sveti Nikola na Stagnji), or Sveti Mikula, is one of the oldest landmarks in Veli Varoš, dating back to the 11th century.

For centuries, the church was at the heart of local life, with children racing to ring its bell on St. Nicholas’ Day, filling the neighborhood with the sound of celebration.

Today, the church is usually closed, but every year on December 6th, it opens its doors for a special mass in honor of its patron saint.

It’s a quiet reminder of the traditions that shaped this part of Split.
